  • Design and development of metal hydride storing devices; Development of hydrogen storage alloys.
  • Diffusion of hydrogen in AB2 and AB5 alloys.
  • Hydrogen absorption in nano-materials.
  • Development of hydrogen sensors and optical shutters
  • Hydrogen absorption/desorption studies in the hydrogen equilibrium pressure range 1 - 30 bar and temperature range 30 - 100°C in order  to  identify novel Zr/Mm/Ti based alloys for hydrogen storage device; hydrogen decrepitation studies; in-situ electrical resisitivity studies in metal-hydrides; thermodynamics of  hydrogen absorption and desorption in various phases; the kinetics of hydrogen absorption.
  • Novel methods of synthesis of carbon nanotubes using metal-hydrides as catalysts.
  • Carbon nanotubes as catalyst support for oxygen reduction in PEM fuel cells
  • Carbon nanotubes based Supercapacitors, PV, Li ion battery; Ni-MH battery
  • CNTs for biosensing and biomedical applications
  • Field emission studies of carbon nanotubes
  • Production of hydrogen by photo-electrochemical methods.

 

Dr. Ramaprabhu carried out the following research works at Geneva and Darmstadt respectively

  • Preparation   and   63Cu  NQR   studies  of organo copper(I) complexes; single  crystal 4p  goniometer Zeeman studies of  63Cu  NQR; measurement    of   relaxation   times   by pulsed  NQR;  14N  NQR studies using double resonance  technique, novel  ESR studies of   X - ray irradiated Cu(I) monomer complexes.    
  • Construction of a high pressure  set up  for  hydrogen  absorption studies;  preparation, characterization of Palladium solid solution alloys  with Y, Dy,  Sm, Gd, Er, Ta, Nb, Th, Zr and  hydrogen absorption studies by the pressure reduction method at low hydrogen pressure; preparation, characterization of Palladium - Erbium   intermetallic  compounds   and the hydrogen absorption studies by the pressure reduction  method.

  • Design and development of a hydrogen absorption/desorption apparatus for the study of hysteresis in alloy-hydrides.
  • Development of carbon nanotubes and nano-materials for hydrogen storage device. 
  • Development of experimental facility for the synthesis of carbon nanotubes by pyrolysis technique using double furnace technique
  • Development of experimental facility for the novel method of synthesis of carbon nanotubes by pyrolysis technique using single furnace technique using metal-hydrides as catalysts
  • Development of high pressure (150 bar) hydrogen adsorption facility for the study of hydrogen adsorption in nanotubes
  • Design and development of a hydrogen decrepitation  unit.
  • Design and development of in-situ electrical resistivity of alloy-hydrides.
  • Design and development of metal hydride storage device.
  • Development of materials for hydrogen storage device.
  • Development of materials for Ni-MH batteries

He has authored 130 Journal papers and presented 80 papers at Conferences.
