Dr. Amulya Kumar Panda is a Scientist at the Product Development Cell, National Institute of Immunology, New Delhi, INDIA.

He is a PhD in BioChemical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi and Masters in Chemical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras.

He was a visiting Scientist at

  • The Department of Chemical Engineering, University of California at Berkeley, CA, USA
  • The Laboratory of Nanbiology, College of Pharmacy, Nebraska Medical Center, NE, USA

His areas of interest in Research include application of chemical engineering principles to biological processes for production, purification and formulation of proteins and bio-molecules. More than20 years of research experiences in area of bioprocess engineering. Fermentation research experiences on Yeast, Fungus, Plant Cells, Animal Cells, Insect Cells, Hybridoma, Viruses and recombinant E. coli for the production of biomolecules. Refolding and high throughput purification of bioactive protein from inclusion bodies of E. coli.Formulations and delivery of therapeutic proteins, DNA and vaccines using polymeric particles. Modulation ofimmune response using polymeric particles.

He is a recipient of the following major awards

  • Young Asian Biotechnologist Prize from The Society for Biotechnology, Japan for the year 2004 on 21st Sept. 2004.
  • Excellence in Scientific Achievements 2001, from National Institute of Immunology, New Delhi, on October 6th 2001.
  • Biotech Product and Process Development and Commercialization Award 2001, by theDept. of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology, Govt. of India, on May 11th , 2001, the Technology Day .
  • SAMANTA CHANDRA SEKHARA AWARD” from Orissa Bigyan Academy, for the year 2000 in the field of biological sciences.

He has published more than 50 research papers, 8 book chapters and holds 10 patents.
